Dark Souls 3 Jailer Bad Game Design
Jailers are just plain bad game design.
Who in their right mind thought it would be fun to play against an enemy that does unavoidable damage, make you fat roll and walk slowly, have attack hitboxes the size of smough's hammer and also put like literally 9 of them in one room.
The only real strategy is to lure them out one at a time. Waiting around and picking them off like that is simply not fun and terrible game design. I don't know how Miyazaki let this through.

I mean, their attacks are slow, easy to dodge and you only fatroll/move slow if you got hit already
level 2
No they are not slow attacks. They are fairly fast jabs with phantom range, and with grabbing attacks they like to spam that will grab you even if you are trying to roll away. Also rolling away doesn't work because they can outrun your fatroll and there's also 9 of them.

I now hope you've played Tower of Latria from Demon's Souls and realize the Jailers are a diet version of the Mindflayers. Those things were far worse than the jailers.

I think they're great, theres nothing like the panic of the first time your health bar starts plummeting.
They're fairly easy to kill, at this point I just accept that I'll be in one hit range at the points I'm fighting them. Then its just a matter of picking them off and not getting greedy. Their attacks are slow enough to dodge easily.

You'll get downvoted for this because reddit hates constructive criticism and braindead "git gud" memes in the community but you're right. Unavoidable damage is pretty dumb design. And it's not very thought-provoking, interesting enemy placement when they just copy/paste like 8 of them in one room.
level 2
The damage is not unavoidable, you just can't spend more than a second or two in their line of sight. Also the jailers are really stupid like most of the other AI enemies. I remember several times where I was fighting a small group of jailers in that one room, and another small group was only about 20 ft away and they didn't even notice me until the first group was all dead.

No it's not and this is a bad take.
level 2
did you know freeing the lycanthrope will aggro him to them so you don't have to? pretty interesting placement to me...
standing behind walls or behind them stops it as well, as does rolling with carthus milkring
it's hardly unavoidable
level 2
it does nothing in pve, correct me if im wrong, with some footage(non pc)
level 1
btw some of them are invisible
